The Bronze House
Architect Zoltan E. Pali's "Bronze House on Nightingale"—11,583 square feet of sculptural design by builder Dugally Oberfeld on a private Bird Streets promontory, with a 106-foot infinity pool, a 60-foot retractable skylight, two Poliform kitchens, a wellness wing with saltwater float pod, and panoramic views from the San Gabriels to the Pacific.
One hundred and six feet of infinity edge, and the city falls away beneath it. The pool at 9344 Nightingale Drive runs the full length of the promontory, the Baja shelf warm and shallow at one end, the heated spa steaming at the other, and the Los Angeles basin spread out below in a panorama that starts at the snow-capped San Gabriel Mountains and ends at the Pacific Ocean. A floating lily pad drifts at the center. The fire pit lounge sits behind you on the grassy lawn. And the house itself, Zoltan Pali's angular, bronze-accented silhouette rising from the hillside, watches over all of it like a piece of sculpture that someone decided to make habitable. Inside, the 60-foot retractable skylight is open, the automated glass pocket doors are retracted, and the boundary between house and sky has dissolved. The oak-paneled atrium with its trigonal, laser-cut detailing catches the light in geometric patterns. The glass staircase with open treads connects a network of catwalks linking the living spaces with the six bedrooms above. Two Poliform kitchens, Italian-designed, state-of-the-art, one for the family and one for events, anchor the entertaining flow. The great room and media lounge handle the social life. The wine cellar handles the collection. And the primary suite, up top, handles the rest: a private terrace overlooking the city, a custom Italian bed, a Poliform dressing room, and a bath wrapped in textured marble walls that catch the light like canyon stone. The wellness wing is where the house goes quiet. Sauna. Steam room. Exercise studio. And a saltwater float pod where you lie in zero gravity, the city somewhere far below, the house somewhere above, and the silence absolute. You surface, shower, and step onto the terrace. The pool is lit. The fire pit is going. The 60-foot skylight is closed now, the stars visible through the glass. And the Bronze House on Nightingale settles into its evening—the one where Pali's architecture, Oberfeld's craftsmanship, and the Bird Streets' most commanding view all converge into a single, sustained note of design so resolved it feels like it was always here.
